“…I finally felt myself lifted definitively away on the winds of adventure towards worlds I envisaged would be stranger than they were, into situations I imagined would be much more normal than they turned out to be.”

This blog showcases the eclectic work of Gerardo Hernández. These are the thoughts and projects of a humble mind chasing adrenaline from one wild experience to the next.
Currently double majoring in English and Journalism at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, California. I am cultivating my reporting skills working as a contributor and editor at Rio’s newspaper, El Paisano.
I like this quote I read a couple weeks ago that says “Every good thing on the planet can be traced back to originating from an act of love.”
Recently, I was at a crossroads deciding what the next step in my life should be. I’ve dedicated time to traveling, playing music, and playing competitive soccer; but all along I’ve struggled to find what my true calling is. During a brief stay in my family’s hometown in Mexico, I realized that I harbour a sincere appreciation for the adventurous nature of life. In its spontaneity, life and love have humbled me in countless situations that have brought me some of my most precious memories. I value the opportunity to hit the road because it provides a unique platform to work out the mechanics of my internal monologue.
On my travels, I spent months learning to be brutally honest with myself and acknowledging that all of my problems could be traced back to a poor mindset. I feel that being humble in your pursuit of knowledge is essential to realizing greater depths of spirituality. This perspective ignited a love for life that spread through me like a wildfire. Uncontrollable and unrelenting- like a divine force of nature. And I think that encapsulates what I wish to be: passionate and provocative, yet genuine in my approach.
A friend once said, “I could not have created the life I now have for myself,” and I internalized that as feeling connected with the universe to fulfill one’s life purpose. At times, it has led me to troubling scenarios, but only to be greeted by a refined sense of wisdom. Now, as a reporter for El Paisano at Rio Hondo College, I’m looking to cultivate my artistic talents in conjunction with my innate sense of adventure to become a contributor for media platforms throughout Los Angeles.
